Skoot Review 2026: The Ride-On SkootCase That Gets Kids to the Gate

Gate B42 is a twelve-minute walk away. Your six-year-old's legs gave out at B12. You already have a carry-on, a car seat bag and a coffee you're no longer allowed to finish. Every parent who has flown with small kids knows this stretch of terminal floor.
Skoot has a cheerful answer to it: give the kid a suitcase they can stand on. The SkootCase™ is a 40-liter hard-shell carry-on with a scooter deck, a handlebar and a brake, and the rest of Skoot's lineup (backpacks, a doll carrier, totes, mats) is built to clip onto it or ride alongside it. We went through goskoot.com in October 2026 to see what you get for the money and who it really suits.
The Story: Four Kids, Lots of Airports
Skoot's About page says it was created "by parents, for parents." Madi and David Nelson run the brand and are parents to four kids. Their view is that travel isn't just about the destination but a chance to show your kids the world along the way. The company started with the SkootCase and has grown into family travel gear for parents as well as kids.
What Makes the SkootCase Different
Skoot calls it a patent-pending 4-in-1 design. In practice that means four ways to use one piece of luggage:
- Ride: your child stands on the 14.2" aluminum deck and scoots, steering by leaning (25° each way) and stopping with a rear brake pedal.
- Roll: when the terminal is packed, fold it up and pull it like any carry-on.
- Scooter only: detach the case and the base becomes a standalone scooter for park paths at your destination.
- Luggage only: leave the scooter at home for a simple trip.
The specs on the product page answer the questions parents ask first:
| Spec | What Skoot lists |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 40 L hard shell, dual compartments, AirTag pocket |
| Case size | 20" L × 12.5" W × 9.5" D |
| Folded size (front view) | 21" L × 12.5" W × 11.5" D, including wheels |
| Weight | 12 lbs |
| Handlebar heights | 33.8", 35.4" and 37" from the ground |
| Rider and luggage limits | Up to 220 lb rider, 44 lbs of luggage |
| Age | Designed for ages 5+ |
| Colors | Pop Pink, Puff Pink, Go Green, Sky Blue, Jet Blue |
Two details stand out. The fold-to-close works one-handed, and Skoot says it's simple enough for kids to do themselves, which frees up your hands at the jet bridge. And the three handlebar heights mean the case can follow a child through several growth spurts instead of being outgrown by next summer.

Kids Backpack or Toddler Backpack?
Both open wide at the top, so nobody has to wrestle with zippers at a boarding call. Both also have a padded tablet pocket, a hidden AirTag pocket, side bottle pockets and elastic loop straps that attach to a SkootCase. The Kids Backpack adds a detachable fanny pack for quick outings. The Toddler Backpack swaps that for a front carrier that holds a doll or teddy. Buy the toddler one if a stuffed animal is a non-negotiable travel companion; buy the kids' one if your child is old enough to ride the case.
Are the little add-ons worth it?
The Doll Carrier straps onto the SkootCase with Velcro, so a teddy can ride up front instead of being clutched while scooting. The Travel Mats fold small, clip onto a stroller or backpack with an elastic strap, wipe clean and have a water-resistant backing. Together they cost less than a single airport meal for a family of four.

How to Save on Skoot
- Bundle past $250 for free standard shipping. A SkootCase plus a Doll Carrier ($250) doesn't quite do it, but a SkootCase plus Packing Cubes ($270) does.
- Choose Skoot Credit if you return something. It's free, with no restocking fee.
- Swap colors for free instead of returning if your kid changes their mind.
- Join the Skoot Concierge Club for early access and member perks.
- Check our deals page for any current Skoot offer.
Skoot FAQ
What age is the SkootCase for?
Skoot designs it for ages 5+, with three handlebar heights (33.8" to 37") and a 220 lb rider limit.
Will it fit in the overhead bin?
Skoot says it folds to fit in the overhead bin and calls it carry-on friendly. Folded, it measures 21" × 12.5" × 11.5" including wheels, so check your airline's limits.
Can it stand up when packed?
Skoot notes that a loaded case with the footbed down isn't meant to stand without a rider; folded upright, it balances.
Does Skoot ship to Canada?
Not currently. Skoot ships within the United States only.
Our Verdict
Skoot turns the most dreaded stretch of any family trip into the part kids look forward to. The SkootCase is carefully specced, with 40 liters, three handlebar heights, a brake and a one-handed fold, and the backpacks and doll carrier make it a complete kid-sized travel kit. It's an investment, so test it indoors, plan around the $250 shipping line and visit our Skoot deals page before you order.
